Overview

The YH5WZ-51/134E Zinc Oxide Surge Arrester is designed for 10kV–220kV transmission and substation systems, providing effective protection against lightning impulses and switching overvoltages. It uses high-performance zinc oxide (ZnO) varistor elements to respond rapidly to transient voltage conditions and divert surge energy, helping protect transformers, switchgear, transmission lines, and other high-voltage equipment.

A high-strength composite silicone rubber housing provides reliable external insulation and resistance to demanding outdoor conditions. The arrester is designed for stable long-term operation with low maintenance requirements, while its anti-aging characteristics support extended service in continuously energized high-voltage systems.

The YH5WZ-51/134E supports both suspension-type and post-mounted configurations, allowing it to adapt to different installation arrangements on poles, transmission towers, and substations. It is suitable for applications in coastal areas with salt fog, industrial pollution zones, wind farms, and other outdoor environments where reliable surge protection and environmental durability are required.

The product is manufactured according to GB 11032-2000 and JB/T 10497-2005, with GB 11032 corresponding to the technical requirements of IEC 60099-4 for AC gapless metal oxide surge arresters.

Core Design and Protection Functions

Structural Construction

The YH5WZ-51/134E incorporates high-performance zinc oxide (ZnO) varistor elements as its primary surge-protection components. Their nonlinear voltage-current characteristics enable the arrester to remain highly resistive during normal system operation while conducting surge current when an overvoltage occurs.

The arrester is enclosed in a high-strength composite silicone rubber housing, which provides electrical insulation as well as mechanical and environmental protection. An integrated molding process creates a sealed housing with good moisture resistance and reliable protection against outdoor contamination, making the arrester suitable for long-term exposure to demanding weather conditions.

Surge Protection Performance

  • Lightning and Switching Surge Protection: The ZnO varistor elements respond rapidly to transient overvoltages, limiting excessive voltage and helping protect transmission lines, transformers, switchgear, and other high-voltage equipment.
  • Improved Transmission Reliability: By providing a controlled discharge path for lightning surge energy, the arrester helps reduce insulation stress and the likelihood of lightning-related interruptions.
  • Long-Service Design: Durable ZnO elements and a weather-resistant composite housing are designed for extended outdoor operation with minimal routine maintenance, helping reduce lifecycle maintenance requirements.
